Renewable Energy Integration: ~23,000 m² rooftop photovoltaic modules planned for energy supply.

Water Management: Rainwater retention system to irrigate greenery

End of Life: Straw wall panels designed to safely return to biosphere at end of life; formal strategy not declared.

Construction Process: Prefabricated straw panel assembly paired with engineered mass timber structure to maximise biogenic content.

“While logistics centers may not traditionally be seen as hubs of design ambition, the design of Logistics Center West represents a fundamental change in how we can reimagine this typology. Here, sustainability is not an afterthought but an inherent part of the design.”

Eva Ravnborg (Director, Henning Larsen)

A logistics hub where prefabricated straw panels and mass timber demonstrate how bio-based construction can apply, using over 23,600 m³ of mass timber and 40,900 m² of straw wall panels, within industrial building typologies of this scale. The Green Hill project applies EcoCocon straw panels within a large-format commercial structure, combining industrialised prefabrication with renewable materials. The project challenges the assumption that straw and bio-based systems are limited to small or domestic buildings, showing their potential for high-performance, large-span construction.

Material strategy: simple, legible system combining mass timber primary structure with prefabricated EcoCocon straw-based façade panels as the primary envelope.

Prefabrication / MMC strategy: off-site manufactured straw panels and engineered timber components used as a risk-management tool to ensure quality control, precision, and speed at industrial scale.

Environmental performance logic: Biogenic material system (mass timber and straw) replacing conventional steel and concrete to reduce embodied carbon. Biodiversity-oriented site design allocating over 40% of the site to wetlands, forest, and meadow landscapes. Renewable energy integration via approximately 23,000 m² rooftop photovoltaic installation.
